About the Company

The Belisama Irish Dance Company is known for its joyful, energetic traditional dancing and its whimsical forays into other styles of music and dance. Repertory includes elements from sean nós (old-style Irish dance), jazz, swing, and modern dance. The Company’s dances are showcased in the Rhythm of Fire performance around St. Patrick’s Day each year and at other venues throughout the region.

Company choreography and music is often created through collaboration with internationally known choreographers and performers such as Michael Patrick Gallagher, a former Irish dance world champion and lead of Riverdance; modern dance choreographer and former Stomp member Seán Curran; Boston Sean Nós (old-style Irish dance) dancer and choreographer Kieran Jordan; fiddler Laura Cortese; and Ronan McCormack, also a former member of the Riverdance company and a world-renowned Irish dance choreographer.

Performing Company dancers have appeared with internationally known artists such as Natalie MacMaster, Eileen Ivers, Trinity Irish Dance Company, Lúnasa, and Gaelic Storm. Several Company members are regional or national dance champions.

Belisama Irish Dance was founded in 2006 in Santa Fe and Los Alamos, New Mexico. We are focused on the dancer as an individual with the goal being a well-rounded person as well as a good dancer. We have a strong focus on performance and choreography, and perform frequently in the communities of Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Albuquerque. Students are invited to create choreography as well, which encourages creative thinking and gives the opportunity to teach others. We compete a few times a year and belong to Cumann Rince Naisunta (CRN), one of the three major Irish dance organizations in Ireland. While competition is encouraged, it is not required to be a student of Belisama. All levels and ages are welcome!

Adrienne Bellis is the director and founder of Belisama Irish Dance. Adrienne began Irish dancing in California at the Claddagh School of Irish Dance and is a National Champion as part of an 8-hand ceili team. She and many of her students have performed with artists such as Trinity Irish Dance Company, Lúnasa, Natalie MacMaster, Gaelic Storm and Eileen Ivers. Several of her students are national and regional champions, and many of them are up and coming choreographers. Adrienne is also a professional singer. Her voice can be heard on various film and video soundtracks, and on several singer-songwriter’s albums.
